For 74 seasons, the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt Panthers) played at Pitt Stadium. On November 13, 1999, Pitt hosted its last game at the venerable stadium. Pitt beat Notre Dame (37 - 27) before more than 60,100 screaming fans. Above is the ticket that I used to get into the game. Below are some photographs that I took during and after the game.

In four seasons at Pitt (1979 to 1982), Dan Marino finished his collegiate career holding every major passing record in Pittsburgh history.
Dan Marino completed 693 of 1,204 passes (57.5) for 8,597 yards, 79 touchdowns and 69 interceptions.
Marino is one of only four players to have his Pitt jersey retired.
He is a record-holder in passing yards for a season (2,876) and career (8,597).
Marino finished his college career ranked fifth on the NCAA all-time lists in passing yards, fourth in completions and fourth in TD passes
Marino graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a B. A. in communications.
Dan Marino retired from the Miami Dolphins after a spectacular 17-year career.
Pittsburgh's 1980 football squad finished 11-1 and ranked No. 2 in the country by the Associated Press and United Press International. The New York Times computer poll ranked the Panthers as the best team in the country at season's end.
In addition to Marino, other luminaries from the heralded 1980 squad include the legendary Hugh Green, Jim Covert, Tom Flynn, Ricky Jackson, Greg Meisner, Rick Trocano, Carlton Williamson and others.
January 1, 1982 - Sugar Bowl - the Georgia Bulldogs versus the Pitt Panthers.
42 seconds left to play - Georgia was leading by the score of 20 to 17 - Pitt had the ball on the 33 yard line - it was 4th down and 5 yards to go.
Head coach Jackie Sherrill called for a time out and was thinking field goal. During the time out, Dan Marino looked at his coach and said, "Coach, I'm not here to tie the ball game. We didn't come here to tie the ball game."
Final play for Pitt on offense - Dan Marino dropped back and threw a pass to John Brown streaking down the middle of the field - 7 seconds later, John Brown was in the end zone and Pitt had won the football game in spectacular fashion.
